Is Gatorade and Powerade really bad for your teeth? Besides that do they really work like they say they do? I have heard that both of them are really bad for your teeth. Also I have heard that they don't really do much for you. That water is the best thing when excercising and all that. So does Gatorade and Powerade not really do anything? Are they just full of sugar?

a rob replied: "all sugary drinks are 'bad' for your teeth. teeth can still take a beating though. be sure to brush 2+ times a day and youll be fine. these drinks are good at providing you with energy in the form of carbohydrates. water will just rehydrate you. i think the best drink while exercising would be protein shakes. it might not taste the best, but its packed with protein and carbs to help rebuild muscle."

amandajayneelizabeth replied: "I studied one subject of nutrition at Uni when I was doing my Human Movement Science Degree and we discussed this question. At that point in time (2002) our lecturers said there was no conclusive evidence that powerade or gaterade is any better or worse than water. More expensive for sure. However my boyfriend rides motocross and swears powerade etc replenish his energy etc much better than water. Is it just that it tastes and looks better so you can drink it more easily? Don t forget to brush your teeth and if possible swish your mouth with water after drinking any softdrink/sugar drink. Especially if you are prone to holes in your teeth."

Why do people say Gatorade and Powerade are good for you? Why do all school sport teams tell you to drink lots of gatorade and powerade all through school, yet they are filled with the worst things you can put in your body such as high frutcose sugar and syrups not to mention all the other artificial man made ingredients?

Matthew M replied: "Restores Electrolytes, and Hydration of the Body."

BrandytheGreat replied: "Haha, maybe the coaches get commisions, just a thought to cheer you up!"

i'm just a girl replied: "electrolytes, they are good for you if you are doing heavy and long physical activities or if you are throwing up or have diarrhea, not so good just to drink them any time."

J R replied: "gatorade contains potassiom gluconate, powerade contains b vitamins (healthy carbohydrates). most major food suppliers use corn syrup because it is cheaper to produce. true, fructose is only used by males to make ejaculatory fluid, and consistent use can cause fat retension and eventually diabetes, but they like to let the buyer decide. (check grain cereals for male/female marketing comparisons)"

Pam H replied: "Must believe the advertising. You are right, the stuff is full of things you don't need. And unless you are really, really sweating for a long period of time you don't need to replenish electrolytes. Water is quite adequate."

tm-ar&k replied: "These drinks restore the electrolytes in your body and guard against dehydration."

Aenima replied: "Drink water instead. They probably get paid to advertise to you guys how "good" a Gatorade is. =P Water is probably 10 times better since its the most necessary thing for your body. Water can do the same as Gatorade as well."

Teeny replied: "They are really only suppose to be used by the serious athletes that lose a lot of water during activities. But to drink them on a daily bases just because they are good, that is not the smart thing to do. You are right, they have a ton of sugar and are really high in calories, not a drink to just casually have when you want."

Luna replied: "This question was very interesting, I wanted to know too, so I did some research just now over the web ^^ gotta love wikipedia~ it's best if an athelete was exercising over 5 hours to drink them, normal exercise will make them not good for you. if a person trains hard and for hours and only drink lots of water, its not the best way to restore fluid levels because it dilutes the salts inside the body's cells and interferes with their chemical functions, so it can lead to water intoxication. really bad if children drink them because its hard for them to break down with all the sugar in them no matter how hard they exercise... electroytes are important to atheletes, because if not consume much electrolytes, it can cause overdehydration read more here on the wikipedia Read under "Sports Drinks" "it is unnecessary..." hope this answers alot, it certainly made me understand them more, no more powerade for me unless im exercising hardcore = )"

Rafael G replied: "Gatorade was developed for the Florida gators football team; it is a supplement for the body fluids lost during exercise. On their tests athletes who drank Gatorade performed better than when they just drank water. Sugar is good for you as long as is not in excess."

RJ replied: "They restore the electrolytes and rehydrate your system. I actually like the new gatorade g2 better. There is something about it that tastes more resfreshing. If anyone is interested there is currently an offer on for a free 8 pack of G2. Just thought I'd share my find with the community. Enjoy!"

ron jon replied: "GATORADE is not good for your health. It makes my back and knees hurt. I deliver this product five days a week."

Will gatorade and powerade stimulate you for a short time like red bull? i hear that red bull gives u a energy burst and then after a short period of time it drains your energy. Does gatorade and powerade have the same effect?

scott.5454 replied: "gatorade and powerade dont give energy, they replenish fluids in your body so it sorta replenishes your energy wheareas redbull gives you energy for about 4 hours but then has a crash at the end"

EXPECTING replied: "Yeah, anything with sugar in it will give you a quick burst. The hydrating aspects of Gatorade would help you more in the long run than a red bull."

Are sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade really placebos? I've always wondered what exactly is in these drinks that replenishes you after playing a particularly vigorous game, or doing a long jog in the heat. I drank a bottle of Powerade after a cross country run and I didn't experience any noticable changes, but then again I hadn't compared to drinking water after running. How useful are these drinks?

James S replied: "These drinks are only useful to athletes that use an explosive amount of energy all at once. Ex: Sprinters, running backs, wide recievers, etc... They are NOT better for you than water but in those kind of athletes it replaces things that your body uses on a faster scale, especially carbohydrates. Those are extremly important source of energy for the human body. Since you are a cross country runner, water should be just fine for you. And truthfully, recommended. Powerade and Gatorade are, all in all, not good for you."

M P replied: "Electrolytes keep you from dehydrating when in the heat, sweating, working hard. If your balance is too low you will pass out with like a sun stroke. Some people need more electrolytes than others. If you are not really exerting yourself these drinks aren't good for you as they also contain a good amount of sugar. You can buy just electrolyte additive for your water."

Are GatorAde and PowerAde just marketing ploys to get us all drinking expensive Koolaid? Or are there actually some benefits compared to the average soft-drink?

cpttango30 replied: "No but you do not need as much as you think you need. Gatorade was devloped by sicentist at the University Of Florida hence the name GATORade."

Dawn V replied: "Any nutritionist will tell you that Gatorade and the like are sweetened with corn syrup, which basicaly negates any benefit they could have. (even if you were a runner who needed the "electrolytes") These are great marketing ploys."

petlady5 replied: "Gatorade and Powerade do have some good things but you really don't need them. It's mostly just sugar to give you a boost. Unless you're out running a marathon or your body is serously depleted of eletrolytes, you don't need to drink Gatorade."

buffhottie27 replied: "Sports drinks are not simply a ploy and do offer some benefits. Gatorade, Power-aid, and All-sport all contain the minerals sodium, potassium, and chlorine, which are collectively referred to as electrolytes. As you workout, especially with sustained long endurance activities, your body using these nutrients relatively quickly. One advantage that these drinks have over plain water is the ability to maintain levels for proper functioning of cells. If you are looking for the benefits of sports drinks without all the cost simply dilute pure (not artificial) fruit juice in with your regular water. It will have a similar effect, add some flavor and save you a lot of money."

•GenXer• replied: "Pretty much; look at the ingredients--it's mostly water and corn syrup! Definitely not good for you!"

What is the differance in Gatorade and Powerade? Well i don't see a differance do you?

fahad replied: "idk"

auntdebbie1230 replied: "There are three main differences between Gatorade and Powerade: the amount of sodium, the amount of sugar, and the type of sugar used. Viewed scientifically, the differences between Gatorade and Powerade are small, with neither beverage appearing clearly superior to the other. I personally prefer Gatorade, since it replaces sodium losses more effectively than Powerade does. However, this may not be an important consideration except in very long runs in which several liters of sweat are secreted."

shyt.bytch replied: "Powerade is good. Gatorade is nasty."

Kawaii_me_o_ya replied: "i think they're made by different companies and if you are on a low sodium diet, powerade is better for you PowerAde: serving size 8 fl oz; calories 70; fat 0g; sodium 55mg; potassium 30mg; total carbs 19g; sugars 15g; protein 0g; vitamin b6 10%; vitamin b12 10%; niacin 10% Gatorade: 8 fl oz; calories 50; total fat 0g; sodium 110mg; potassium 30mg; total carbs 14g; sugars 14g"

caz 12 replied: "There are three main differences - the amount of sodium, the amount of sugar and the type of sugar used. Gatorade use normal glucose and Powerade uses a different type of glucose called Polymers Gatorade has a high level of soium content (almost twice that of Powerade)"

Jennifer replied: "They are suppose to both serve the same purpose of hydrating you. Gatorade taste better then powerade."

Is there a differences between gatorade and powerade? if there are any differences, what are they?

Infamous742 replied: "yes gatorade is much better"

Mike G replied: "Just the companies, gatorade is it`s own label, coca cola handles powerade."

green boy replied: "gatorade has different kinds unlike powerade"

Mrs Brett Lee replied: "They probably have minor differences in the ingredients but they basically do the same thing, they have different flavours and they're owned by different companies but that's about it. Gatorade has a cooler bottle though! And I prefer the Gatorade flavours too. :)"

toot toot face monkey replied: "i dont think there is any difference because they are both ades"

Gatorade and Powerade are they fattening? Okay I was trying to stop drinking soda so I turned to Gatorade and Powerade. Then I overheard someone talking about them saying they can make you gain weight by not burning off whatever is in it....is this true? I thought I was doing good now I'm not so sure. Thanks so much.

Tariq replied: "no that bs"

Cindy O replied: "I dont think so. Its pretty much the same thing as water but it just contains electrolytes, just a lil bit of energy. I dont think it would make you gain weight, that souds really stupid."

shelleighgirl replied: "it is better for you than soda. it doesn't have as much sugar in it."

BARGINHUNTINGMOM replied: "they are loaded with calories and sugar............gatorade 8 0z serving size: 8 fl oz; calories 50; total fat 0g; sodium 110mg; potassium 30mg; total carbs 14g; sugars 14g"

babygurl replied: "well gatorade and powerade are both made with lots of sugar the only difference is there is no caffeine...but you should only drink those 2 when your working out, and if your not water is the best answer. soda, gatorade, powerade, will only dehydrate you more."

(ronae) replied: "powerade and gatorade have alot of sugar in them. so it could be true. check out the label"

matt14.pats replied: "They do have sugar in them which can turn into fat but chances are you will not gain weight by drinking them."

secretkessa replied: "No, what's bad is sugar and calories... and soda has more of that."

mike b replied: "gaterade and powerade are not only loaded with sugar but have a lot of carbs in them. they are ideal for someone who runs alot and needs the energy. but because they are made with high fructose corn syrup, they are no good to anybody. if you dont want to drink soda i would turn to flavored water. or just water in itself."

Ambivalence replied: "It's full of sugar. I'm not sure how the amount of sugar compares to soda-pop (it tastes less sweet to me, so it's probably less), but it's a fair bit of sugar in any case. If it tastes sweet and it doesn't have artificial sweeteners in it, then it's got sugar in it. If you really want to lose weight, drink water, unsweetened tea, or maybe lowfat milk."

cplkittle replied: "Try the low calorie versions. I personally like the powerade option. 10 calories per serving. It is light and satisfying, not sugary and syrupy like the regular gatorade or powerade. I also recently switched from sodas to water and low calorie drinks, powerade option is by far my favorite."

stephen k replied: "They are NOT fattening"

xogee23 replied: "Gatorade and Powerade are not fattening but i wouldn't suggest drinking them as a substatue for soda. Theres still sugar and artifical flavorings and not soo great stuff in them. Try getting in the habbit of drinking water, or flavored water for taste."

metal lover replied: "only if you sit around and repeatedly drink it its made for exercising. it could if you dont work it off but its healthier than soda"

[M]iKE replied: "anything with sugar and caffeine and calories and stuff that gives you energy is fattening... but it is better than drinking soda..=)"

ljshorty86 replied: "They are meant as 'sports drink' because they are high in calories and electorlites etc. If you are drinking it as a beverage unrelated to working out you may want to lower the amount you are drinking or switch your drinks cuz although they don't have 'fats' they do have a lot of calories for a bevy.."

sweetiepie replied: "well check the fat contents. i drink vitamin water and i love it and it has less that 100 calories."

I need some facts about gatorade and powerade. I got a know it all teacher who uses the N word 2 much? I just need ammo to argue with in the following categories: Sodium Calories Sugar What the drinks are intended to be used for He says theyre to be used as a supplier of energy and to "give you a boost". i thought that they are supposed to replenish u. which of us is correct? thank you answers community

Kaylyn H replied: "you are both sort of right. water is going to still be the leader in replenishing your energy and giving you a boost. But the two sports drinks do give you something that water can't and won't give you unless you are drinking from the ocean. eletrolytes to carry toxins from your body and to keep your core cool."

biggunz66 replied: "OK, here is as simply as I can put it: Sodium-essential for hydration. When you sweat, your body gives off a large amount of sodium. When a certain amount is lost, it throws off your sodium/potassium pump, which helps regulate muscular activity (why you get cramps). Sodium helps your body retain water. Dehydration will crush performance, no matter what condition you're in otherwise. Calories- These sports drinks are high in calories BECAUSE they contain sugar. Sugar is a simple carbohydrate that helps replace depleted gylcogen stores during periods of intense activity or is broken down for immediate use. By replacing glycogen, your body restores it's energy reserves, allowing you to perform at a higher level for a longer period of time. Also, it prevents, represses, or delays lactic acid build up, the culprute behind that "burn" you feel in your muscles that can hinder athletic performance. Sugar- Does not induce hyperactivity. Provides a resource for your body to use for muscular, organ, and cellular activity. If not immediately used by the body, it's stored as fat. Gatorade and Powerade are not "energy" drinks like Amp, Monster, Rockstar, etc., which have large amounts of stimulants like caffine that affect your central nervous system. They (sports drinks) do not give you a jolt of energy, but rather let you sustain your energy over a longer period of time through adequate rehydration and glycogen replenishment. So in black and white terms, I'd say you're correct."
